Contraceptive Coil

(Mirena / Kylena / Jaydess / Copper (Ballerine) Coil)

Bath Avenue Medical Centre is a leading provider of family planning, fertility, and sexual health services in Dublin.
Our team of highly trained and qualified medical professionals is dedicated to helping you make informed decisions about your reproductive health. As part of our comprehensive suite of services, we offer the contraceptive coil, including the Mirena, Jaydess, and Copper Coil at a cost of €180.

The insertion of a contraceptive coil is also available free of charge to patients eligible for the HSE Contraception Scheme for patients aged 18 – 26.

The contraceptive coil is a highly effective form of long-acting reversible contraception that is inserted into the uterus. It works by preventing the fertilisation of eggs by sperm or by making the uterus inhospitable to implantation. The Mirena and Jaydess coils release a small amount of the progesterone hormones progestin and levonorgestrel, while the Copper Coil is hormone-free.

At Bath Avenue Medical Centre, we offer consultations with our medical professionals to discuss your options and determine which type of contraceptive coil is right for you. During the consultation, we will review your medical history, discuss any concerns or questions you may have, and provide detailed information on the benefits and potential risks associated with each type of coil.

If you decide to proceed with the contraceptive coil, our medical professionals will administer the device in our clinic. The procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes, and you can expect to experience some mild cramping or discomfort during and after the insertion. However, most women are able to resume their normal activities within a day or two.

The contraceptive coil is a highly effective form of contraception, with a success rate of over 99%. It is also a convenient option for women who want long-lasting protection without having to remember to take a daily pill or use other forms of contraception. The Mirena and Jaydess coils can provide effective contraception for up to 5 years, while the Copper Coil can last for up to 10 years.

It is important to note that the contraceptive coil does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We strongly recommend that all sexually active individuals consider the use of a barrier method of contraception, such as condoms, in addition to the contraceptive coil.

At Bath Avenue Medical Centre, we are committed to providing Personal Professional Care to all of our patients. Our team of medical professionals has extensive experience in family planning, fertility, and sexual health, and we are dedicated to helping you achieve your reproductive goals. If you are interested in learning more about the contraceptive coil or any of our other services, please contact us and we’ll be happy to walk you through what’s involved.
